The idea of a Nehemiah Team emerged in the summer of 1979 during a conversation between John MacFarlane and Hans Heidelberger.
It was their wish to link up Christians in the Nuremberg area, and to encourage unity amongst them. As there was a great need for teaching and training at that time (the beginning of the charismatic movement,) as well as for inter-church events, the Nehemia Team aimed to develop skills and to foster the mutual cooperation of Christians through seminars, leadership training, a regional magazine, inter-church events etc.
Nehemiah Team started to do it’s first bible school in 1993 in Ukraine. It’s aim was to teach 5000 Christians in the new emerged churches in the former Soviet Union republics till the year 2000. NGO Nehemiah was officially registered in 1996. In 2001 the Nehemiah training center was built in Uzhhorod, Ukraine (west part).
