The school of Pastoral ministry was temporarily closed. Currently
NGO “Nehemiah” is doing retreats for pastors, leaders and their
families. We apologize for delay in delivering this information.
On the 8th of
June 2006 NGO “Nehemiah” held another seminar for ministers,
volunteers and social workers, who work with people having different
addictions.
The seminar was conducted by Michael See, the director of the
program “Let’s Celebrate Recovery” from Corvallis, Oregon.
Those who really desire to start working with addicted people
in Uzhhorod attended the teaching. Interesting is the fact that
most people who came to the seminar were people from local governmental
and non – governmental organizations. This rehabilitation program
is built on developing personal relationships with Jesus Christ
and mutual support in small groups. Though this program people
will be able to find truth, freedom from any addiction and become
healthy personalities.
20-28.05.06.
And
whoever wishes to be first among you must become the slave of
all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to
serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.
Mark 10:44-45
Since 2004, Pastors Tom Bloom,
Jerry Smith and the people of Community of Believers Church of
Ohio, USA have had a vision and a heart to serve the Roma people
of Transcarpathia. This spring it has been our privilege at Nehemiah
to join them in their service. On May 20th, a team was sent from
Community of Believers Church to begin work on a water system
for the Roma village of Zarichevo.
Until this time, the people of Zarichevo have been taking water
directly from a small stream, which runs through the middle of
the village, the result of which has been chronic health problems
in the village. Nehemiah has been working with Community of Believers
to use this opportunity to show Zarichevo the love of Christ by
serving them in a practical way and to tell them about the Living
Water that God offers, which will make them never thirst again.
The project has been substantial in terms of size, calling for
the building of a dam at the head of the stream, a filtration
system, reservoir, and the laying of over 300 meters of pipe through
the village. The role of Nehemiah has been to provide in-country
oversight and coordination for the task, which includes drawing
the plans and completing the work once the team had to leave.
As
a result of what the Lord is doing through this project we have
already seen people coming to Christ and a new wave of hope come
into the village. It is the desire and prayer of Nehemiah and
Community of Believers that this will be one of many such opportunities
to reach out and help Zarichevo and the Roma people.

In the end of April we were honored to receive a group of young
people, senior students from a Christian school which is in Nashua,
state New Hampshire, USA.
The week started with immersion into spiritual traditions of Transcarpathia
connected with Easter celebration. Young people visited church
services in various Christian fellowships, and also had opportunity
to try various dishes from Easter table which Ukrainian friends
generously shared.
On Monday 12 children from Domboki orphanage came to stay at Nehemiah
center. In 4 days foreign and local kids became real friends.
They ate together, played, went to museums and studied the Word
of God. Someone would think that language barrier would be an
obstacle, but universal language of love and friendliness can
bring together even very different people.
This even opened a whole new world for the kids from
the orphanage in the contrast with closed environment in which
they usually abide. It seemed like in these four days they learnt
more about the world than they would have done it in other circumstances.
But, probably, what was the most important – these kids realized
that they are not alone and there are people who love them.

The month of March was rich in various interesting events.
In the end of Febuary in the beginning of March we had visitors,
our old friends from Nashua, New Hampshire. This time they decided
to surprise us and brought along a team of very talented girls
- dancers. The girls gave concerts in the boarding schools of
Perechyn, Domboky and many other places. For a few evenings American
dancers shared their art with representatives of local youth.
By the end of the week they were all dancing together as one team.
Children in the orphanages and local youth were very excited by
this dancing practise and expressed their desire to see this dancing
team again in the future.
A few children from Domboky boarding school were especially happy
and blessed, because they were invited to spend a few days at
Nehemiah Training Center, in Uzhgorod with their American peers.
All the kids from both countries made good friends during this
period of time. Kids from the orphanage were happy because they
experienced love and care from people they have never seen before.
Time went fast and our new friends brought back to the US a piece
of Ukraine and many interesting impressions, thoughts and plans
for future; almost each one of them said that wants to come back
to Ukraine.

Next very important event was visit of Mr. Christian Overman from
the USA. Chis Overman works in the area of education. He does
seminars for teachers, university professors and anyone else involved
in the area of education. These seminars are devoted to the theme
of Christian worldview and its integration with various academic
subjects.
On the 14th of March Mr. Overman had a meeting with Mr. Y.V. Hrtsog
– superintendant of Transcarpathian region. They discussed moral
and spiritual state of Ukrainian youth. Mr. Hertsog shared his
concern about the processes going on in the life of young people
today. They also talked about the role of Christain principles
in bringing up children. Superintendant of the region invited
Mr. Overman to do the seminar about “Biblical Worldview Integration”
for teachers, who are taking special classes at the Teachers Training
Institute.
Mr.
Overman also did the same seminar for highschool students in one
of the local schools. He was invited there by the principal of
that school Mr. O.I. Mateleshko. Children expressed a great interest
in the things Mr. Overman was sharing. It’s evident, that Ukrainian
teenagers think about deep issues of life.
Teachers from Irshava secondary school were also very satisfied
by the lecture on “Biblical Worldview Integration”. They were
impressed by an unusual approach in presenting this issue, and
by a number of illustrations form life.Teachers said that Mr.
Overman is always welcome in their school. So we do hope to have
a bigger number of such events in the future.
